Sen. Al Gore (D-Tenn.) joined “Meet the Press” on February 21, 1988 as a Democratic presidential candidate. Gore responded to accusations that he was “faking” being a southern conservative. Political “labels don’t mean what they once did,” Gore said, adding that he is “not” a liberal Democrat.
